As more and more wine manufactures have turned towards using plastic stoppers, the Portuguese cork industry had to think of alternatives uses for cork. This led to cork flooring, furniture and wallpaper. Now even fashion designers are interested in the versatility of tree bark and not just for cork shoes. The cork material is made of very thin, pliable cork, that is often coated with Scotchgard. It has a similar feel as leather, but cost nearly half and is machine washable. It looks like we’ll be seeing more of cork fashion on the runways in the near future.
