Movies have trailers/teasers so why can’t books? Steve Osgoode, the director of online marketing at HarperCollins Canada, predicts that book trailers will be adopted by other publishing companies despite the fact that it’s definitely a challenge to produce. He does admits that trailers will work best for books that have powerful and broad images associated with them. Osgoode’s recent trailers include Tim Flannery’s The Weather Makers and Gautam Malkani’s Londonstani. “Book orders all round have increased dramatically just based on the trailers.” (Guardian) The trailers can be downloaded and are actually being tested on cable TV and in Toronto theatres. Some authors disagree that trailers will have any increase in their book sales, but Malcolm Gladwell says he’s happy with any marketing effort. |
